Podcast: Top Multifamily Living Trends to Follow in 2024

The MDU residential segment is experiencing exponential growth in smart home device consumption, driven by AI and advanced device identification to personalize experiences and enhance connectivity. This trend extends to your SFU customers as well, with the typical US home connecting to an average of 20 unmanaged smart devices.

Recognizing the MDU/SFU distinction is crucial for ISPs in determining the right connectivity offering. Another significant differentiation, often overlooked, lies between standard and premium IoT households, presenting varying challenges and business prospects. News: Feds Removed Russian Malware From US Home & Office Routers

Once again, feds fix up compromised retail routers under court order. Over 1,000 Ubiquiti home-office routers were infected with state-sponsored malware and co-opted for global crime and spy operations.

These hackers manipulate a well-known variant called “MooBot”, which could affect thousands of devices connected to these routers, leading to internet speed drops, router overheating, unresponsiveness, and even DDoS attacks!

While some Network Service Providers are protected, many others remain vulnerable, leaving countless subscribers exposed. MooBot exemplifies the need for a platform agnostic, gateway security solution for both consumers and businesses! SAM’s proactive measures ensure our customers are protected. Discover how to secure your network today.

News: Chinese State-Sponsored Actors Threaten SOHO Networks

Lumen Technologies recently uncovered Chinese state-sponsored actors, Volt Typhoon and KV-botnet, targeting Small Office/Home Office networks. These attackers blend seamlessly into normal network activities by exploiting compromised SOHO IoT devices like routers and firewalls. This alarming trend mirrors the surge in attacks on residential and SOHO routers, including HiatusRAT and ZuoRAT, observed over the past years.

The research offers security tips to reduce the risks, however small businesses lack the expertise and resources to effectively combat this threat, making them vulnerable to potential business crippling disasters from just a single successful attack. So, what can be done?

ISPs and MSPs are uniquely positioned to intervene and leverage the right technology to deliver automated and comprehensive CPE-level protection for their business clients. This includes automated threat scanning, complete network security, and continuous threat analysis at the device level, ensuring dependable and hassle-free connectivity.
