Welcome to SAM’s newsletter, in which we explore a roundup of customer-focused insights and industry news stories related to security and threat intelligence solutions for unmanaged networks and IoTs.
In this edition, get ready for our new podcast episode where SAM’s Head of Product sheds light on the important distinctions between device, cloud, and network-based security solutions in just 10 minutes! Additionally, we delve into the alarming vulnerability of garage door openers, which can expose your home customers’ entire network to potential breaches, and share ways to protect their digital kingdom.
Furthermore, we explore the shifting approach of top ISPs in the wake of recent telco network breaches, as they embrace cloud-native security value-added services and prioritize data simplification and control. And that’s not all – we have exciting news to share! SAM has been honored with two prestigious 2023 Global InfoSec awards, recognizing our dedication to making security accessible for everyone.
Here’s to another month of security victories and insightful discoveries!
CISA is advising Nexx customers to unplug their impacted devices! As it turns out, some sneaky hackers have found a way in through their garage door opener (yep, you read that right). And according to Dark Reading, these vulnerabilities have been around since 2022, but there’s no news on a patch timeline yet. Crazy, huh?
Unfortunately, this kind of thing is quite common beyond this incident. Smart IoT devices like your doorbell, speaker or even your trusted printer can put your entire network at risk if they are not regularly updated and secured. It can take weeks (sometimes months, and often never) for firmware vendors to discover, resolve, and patch a vulnerability in their devices. Antivirus software won’t do much to stop these bad guys from taking over, but don’t worry! We’ve got your back.

Recent data breaches in telco networks have had large-scale effects on both customers and the reputations of ISPs themselves. Forbes reports that top ISPs are now re-evaluating the effectiveness of the traditional bandwidth performance-centric approach and investing in cloud-native security value-added services.
And the growing prevalence of smart devices in home and small office networks has also led to increasing fragmentation and complexity. This has highlighted the importance of ISPs to simplify and control their data models to deploy AI and automation and access accurate and granular network data. By leveraging this data, ISPs can gain insights into user and device behavior, better understand their operating environment, improve their quality of service, and increase the efficiency of upselling new services.
It’s time to get the fundamentals right, and a common network data layer is key to achieving this. Learn more about the benefits of using deep network observability to improve your telco services and grow your business.
